43.96g. Housed in its original hard case of issue, maker-marked "KJARTAN ASMUNDSSON, REYKJAVIK" inside the lid. Enamels intact.This is a Type II example (without crown), introduced after the proclamation of the republic in 1944. Silver-gilt with blue and white enamels, measuring 44.5 mm (width) × 77 mm (height including integral suspension ring). Suspended from its original full-length neck ribbon.The Order of the Falcon (Hin íslenska fálkaorða) was established on July 3, 1921 by King Christian X, then monarch of Denmark and Iceland, as a national order of merit. It is the highest order of Iceland and is awarded to both Icelandic citizens and foreigners for outstanding contributions in public service, culture, science, business, or other fields of national importance.The President of Iceland now serves as the Grand Master of the order.The order is issued in five classes: Grand Cross, Grand Knight with Star (Grand Officer), Knight with Star (Commander), Knight, and Medal. The insignia of the order features a white-enamelled cross with blue borders and a central medallion bearing the Icelandic falcon, the country's national symbol.Awards are typically made by presidential decree, and the order remains active as a state decoration of the Republic of Iceland
