Jean Antoine Michel Agar (1771-1844) was a high state official at the time of Napoleon. He became provisional commissioner of Tuscany in 1799. Tuscany was conquered by French troops in 1799, and named Kingdom of Etruria in 1801. Agar was Minister of Finance in the Grand Duchy of Berg between 1806 and 1808. Joachim Murat awarded him the title of a Comte de Mosbourg at that time. This meant the power of land and castle Morsbroich (today Leverkusen, Germany). Murat appointed him as Minister of Finance of the Kingdom of Naples in 1808. Agar stayed there until the death of Murat in 1815.

The tramway was founded in 1877. Two lines went from the city center to Tivoli and to the Castelli Romani. In 1882 several lines were sold. In 1909 only the lines Rome-Tivoli and Milan-Gallarate remained with the company. In 1929 the Société was liquidated. The tramway lines were taken over by the Société Auxiliare de Transports et de Finance (S. A. T. E. F.) S. A.

Der Simplonpass verbindet in 2005 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel das Rhônetal im Schweizer Kanton Wallis mit dem Val d'Ossola in der italienischen Provinz Verbano-Cusio-Ossola und dem Lago Maggiore. Die Gesellschaft versuchte einen Bahntunnel durch den Simplon zu errichten, scheiterte jedoch. Von 1898-1905 und 1912-1921 wurde der Simplon-Basistunnel erbaut. Er war lange Zeit mit fast 20 Kilometern der längste Gebirgstunnel der Erde. 1906 wurde der Eisenbahntunnel offiziell eröffnet. Bekannt wurde der Tunnel durch den bis 1977 durch ihn verkehrenden Simplon-Orient-Express.
